CII AF1 Exam: Personal Tax and Trust Planning
The CII’s AF1 exam forms part of the Advanced Diploma in Financial Planning. It is a 3-hour question paper taking a case study approach. It consists of 3 compulsory questions, with a nominal pass mark of 55%.
The AF1 exam syllabus covers the basic structure of the tax system and self-assessment; taxes charged to individuals on income and capital gains, how this works with self-assessment and how tax liabilities are calculated; taxation of investments; residence and domicile and how this affects an individual’s liability to tax in the UK; legal principles; trusts including duties and powers of trustees; wills and intestacy; bankruptcy; trusts and taxation.
