Last updated on September 25th, 2019 at 4:50 am
The CF4 exam in Retirement Planning can be used as credit towards the Certificate in Financial Planning or the Certificate in Life and Pensions. The objective of this exam is to develop candidates’ awareness of the range of pension products available, and to enhance their understanding of the pension tax regime. Upon completion of this exam, candidates should be able to apply these principles to provide retirement planning advice to an individual tailored to his specific needs. The Certificate in Financial Planning provides a solid grounding if you intend to give financial advice in a professional capacity. The Certificate in Life and Pensions is suitable for those who are already working in the financial services industry, be it in an administrative, customer support or compliance role. To meet the requirements of the Financial Services Authority, all staff must attain a level of knowledge to enable them to perform their job effectively.
It is recommended that a student spend approximately 40 study hours for the CF4 exam, which is worth 10 exam credits and can be taken at several test centres in cities all over the UK. It is a one-hour-long exam, consisting of 50 multiple choice questions, with a nominal pass mark of 70%.
In order to pass the exam, candidates should have a good understanding of all aspects of retirement planning, including its effect on clients before, at the time of, and after retirement. Other topics include retirement-related taxation and legislation; the impact of individual, occupational and State pension schemes on retirement planning; the different options for taking retirement benefits; how alternative investments can be used within the retirement planning process; and how retirement planning is affected by divorce.
Brand Financial Training offers candidates Mock Exam Papers to help them study for the CF4 exam. These consist of three full sets of mock papers. A free set of mock papers is also available. The mock papers are written in the same style as the CII mock papers, but are not duplicates. Brand Financial Training can also provide individual or group coaching and tuition to give candidates the best chance of passing the exam.
